November 2009:

Marshall Marquees were recently approached to design and manufacture a canopy to cover the Royal Dais used for State Visits at Windsor Castle.

The Royal Household's design brief specified an easily-assembled relocatable structure with extra-height legs to accommodate the dais inside. However the main design challenge was the requirement for a cantilevered open frontage - quite different from a standard frame marquee.

Our design was based on a modified 6m x 3m clear span aluminium frame marquee with several custom-made components. We were also commissioned to manufacture a second canopy to fit over the steps at the Equerries Entrance doorway. Our fabrication team produced the framework and covers for both structures at our Bristol premises.

The dais canopy (pictured below having the dais fitted by Royal Household staff) and the entrance canopy were delivered and assembled for a "trial run" in the Quadrangle at Windsor Castle in early October. Final positions for the permanent flush-mounted ground anchorages we supplied with the structure were established at this time.

In late October, we returned to the Castle to assist Royal Household staff reassemble both structures on the day prior to the State visit by the President Of India. And for the finishing touch, we installed elegant white pleated Baytex Silkline linings in both structures. Both linings were made-to-measure by Baytex Manufacturing Co Ltd, specialist marquee lining manufacturers.

And the finished result?
